Hello, I have a Verizon Xoom I bought and now I'm out of contract and canceled the data plan...it is super expensive...I use fox do on my phone to tether from Bluetooth. I want to ROOT the Xoom and be able to use wifi tether from phone...version blocks wifi Adhoc feature

You don't need to root your tablet to tether to your phone. You used to have to root your phone to tether your tablet to your phone but if you have a 4G device you can download a tether app from the Play Store. If you have a 3G phone I think you still need to root but not 100% sure.

Search for Foxfi in the Play Store on your phone. That seems to be the best no root required tether app.

Oh, I read it wrong xD.

HEllo I want Adhoc ability so I can tether with wireless wif tether. Currently foxfi only is enabled by Bluetooth protocol. It's slow.

The one touch root application I cannot find and developer has removed almost a year ago....does anyone know how to get the application?

Rooting your tablet is still not the correct answer. Your teblet does not have a data plan to share with another device. All you need to do with your tablet is place it in airplane mode and then turn wifi on. This will turn the 3G radio off to save battery and basically make your tablet a wifi Xoom. Your phone needs to support ad hoc networking to allow the Xoom to use it to connect to the internet.

BTW if you want to root your tablet that's your call I am just letting you know it will not affect how your tethering experience.

Can't he just root his phone then? After that, he can just get opengarden or barnacle and make his phone a wifi hotspot.

Yes, assuming he has an android phone with a data plan rooting the phone is the best option. Both my tablet and phone are rooted and I have a ROM on my phone that enables WiFi tethering. However, my understanding of the recent FCC finding against Verizon is that neither need to be --rooted to do this.

If I understand what the OP is saying the problem is that the tethering app he has chosen to use only allows him to use Bluetooth to connect the tablet to his phone. I would recommend that the OP investigate a different app to use for tethering instead of rooting either of his devices. To me it sounds more like a configuration problem with the app he is using to tether. I have had the most success tethering by disabling wifi security options while tethering. Without knowing what phone the OP has there is not much more to recommend.

hello, i have the wireless tether app from android store. it works fine with other tablets even laptops to connect by wifi and then use. my problem is that somewhere in the xoom (kernal--maybe) it does not allow the verizon xoom to connect to any phone type of wifi. only home wifi phones creat a ADHOC event to bridge for wifi onto tablet from my understanding. i cannot do adhoc with my VERIZON XOOM but i can with any other wifi only device.

thats why i want to root so i can remove the verizon restrictions

Hello again ,

I have installed and before got my cell phone to root. Can I use that or where would I find out the adb and fast boot ? Is there a guide to how ?

Hi is there a thread that better shows adb and fastboot process? The other thread is confusing to me after step 5.

Or does anyone have a copy of the one click xoom root method ? I have searched for it but can't find a copy to download since author removed it from online.
