Can you achieve superuser without usb?

I have an HTC hero phone. It was a gift. I had to replace the usb port, but when I did I ended up accidentally unsoldering and burning some tiny any components. Sadly, I do not own a rework station.

I have lost all usb connectivity never to return for this phone.

Is there a way to achieve superuser access without the usb port? Please do not say "no" unless you know for sure that one cannot gain superuser access without the use of the usb port.

i would suggest that you go over to the hero forums and read thru the rooting sections. there are 2 forums, one for the gsm hero and one for the cdma (sprint) hero. it's possible that z4root might work for you.

I downloaded z4root (i couldn't find it in the market) and it worked perfectly for a permanent root! thanks for the suggestion! Why can't rooting be this easy for all phones?

Because root exploits are security holes that the OEMs and Google patch as often as they can. Makes 1 click rooting harder.

With your dilema, you may want to consider three apps. Terminal emulator to run command line stuff. ES file explorer which has root capability and Network share (samba) to copy files. ADB Wireless which lets you run adb over wifi.
