Can you help where others have failed?

Hi Guys... Am new to Android (previous Nokia and Windows) and honestly, i'll never go back! Keep your iPhone and Windows 7, im a 'Droid convert!!!

Anyway, i think there have been threads about Kies Air before (??) but ive been trying "everything" but to no luck.. but i am new to Android so...

Heres the details:

New Samsung Galaxy S 2
Kies Air version 2.0.1
Software runs on phone and gives me the 192.168.0.105:8080 bit
I get the 'dinging' bell sound from the phone to tell me its running
I type the IP into my browser but the status part of the browser says "waiting for 192.168...."
I do not get the pop up on the phone to accept the connection, so both phone and PC "wait".
Both are on the same network
Ive even opened up the 8080 ports on my PC

Seems like the PC is waiting for the phone and the phone is waiting for the PC. The fact is I have had it running once on this network when i reinstalled Kies on the phone and it connected straight through (so it must work right?).
Then when i reconnected some time later.. no luck.. and no luck since..

Ive reinstalled, opened ports, re downloaded, turned of debugging mode, cleared cache, restarted phone and PC, changed browsers... still nothing!

Any saviors out there?????

Why are you even using Kies. :p, I came from Nokia before as well.and Kiea doesnt even hold a candle against Ovi Suite. Just use cloud sync. Works best. Its also very difficult.to transfer sms from a Nokia to an Android so you can froget about that. Just sync your old phone to Outlook, sync Outlook to Gmail and Google calendar. Transfer your music pics and videos via mass storage for both devices, then choose one of the multitude of cloud sync programs and apps out there for tasks and docs

Its the Kies Air im using and seemed (for the short time i could use it) a brilliant way to wireless to my phone and see the status of everything.. I could also reply my txt via the keyboard on my PC rather than typing on the virtual keyboard with my sausage thumbs!...

Just seemed a very handy way to access your phone via a web browser..

Remote Desktop.

It sounds as though your AV or firewall. If not, router. The ports are not being opened.
Did you set port forwarding for the app?
 
Yes, remote desktop.. thats what i like!

Tried turning off the firewall on my PC no luck... im also thinking the router although unfortunately its our office router so dont have access.. Anything else?

It worked on Friday, once.. but not any more...

Are there any other products similar? or would i have the same router issue anyway?
 
I'd bet it's Kies. The software is a PITA to begin with. I tried to get it to sync with my Galaxy Tab one time and that's with a cable plugged in. I had to try three different computers and uninstall drivers and reboot multiple times before I even got it to recognize the Tab and, again, that was with it plugged in. I gave up on it. I sync wirelessly with other apps. What kind of stuff are you trying to sync?

Are you sure you've opened port 8080 for inbound and outbound traffic on your PC? If you are using Windows 7 you must create a custom rule. You'll need admin rights to do it as well. Open a port in Windows Firewall

If your PC and Phone are on the same subnet, the router shouldn't restrict traffic.
 
I particularly liked the typing SMS with my keyboard rather than picking up the phone..just lazy I guess!! I really liked the fact that I can use any pc quickly over a browser to put files into the phone...maybe I stick to blutooth!!
 
Yes I found a thread on the whole open port 8080 on my pc which I did.. If u think it could be that rather than the router, I might revisit that old chestnut again.. Thanks for the advice all!

As a quick test, If you have any open shares on your network, you might try accessing them from your phone using ES File Explorer for Android | AppBrain.com. That will assure your phone and PC are on the same subnet. You might also have an issue with any internal firewall and managed switches your network might have, but usually those would be open for port 8080.
