Can you text message (handwriting to text) on Note 10+

Hi all;

New here and have just ordered a new phone- the Samsung Galaxy Note 10+. I'm trying to familiarize myself with the phone before it arrives to save time and frustration. I'm a note taker and writer and hate texting. I cannot seem to find anywhere online if this device works on the messaging app. I see that with the s pen you can write documents, emails etc. but have not not found anything that says it works with text messaging. I even tried the Samsung chat and the guy online had no idea, so that was useless!! Can anyone help?

From what I remember of my note 8, you can do so from the memo app. Other than, no. Unless, that is, they updated note 10 software. BTW, welcome to Android Forums, Lizzie!

the note series is a top of the line product and designed for power users who need pen writing features. the above videos should give you a head start on your question. there are many more videos and blog sites with even more info. i also encourage you to read up on the phones operating manual to get an overall idea of the device and its specific features that breaks it apart from the competition.

Give Gboard a try. its googles keyboard:

you can handwrite using snotes, save that text then copy and paste it into your text messaging app.

Hi everyone! For future reference for others, I received my new phone and indeed, the messaging app does convert handwriting to text. When you take out the pen, it leads you to the page containing the s pen functions. Simply go back to your messaging app, open a message as if you're about to start typing. Tap on the 3 dots and select the handwriting icon. Its as simple as that!

I've been using a Note for several years now and one of the biggest reasons for that is that I have so much difficulty using the tiny keyboard to type out anything! So I have my keyboard app set to automatically open to the handwriting pane whenever I start to write. Now if I could get the feature to actually convert what I wrote instead of second guessing me all the time!

Not to change the subject, but how can you even use the pen to write at all? My handwriting sucks using it. I can't even rest my palm down on the screen to write legibly.

I have succesfully used the Note phones to write text since the Note 1. They are excelent ad ignoring palm lean and have only improved over time at recognising my poor handrwriting. With the Note1 I used it to teach me how to writw with a pen again by using the pen keyboard and I was more accurate than with a text keyboard but it got me back in the habbit.
The note taking tools are much advanced since those days though, as well as graphics apps that support the press to press harder functionality that has been there from the start.

This is all on th go but for artists that nead something heftier in hand things like the Wacom Pencil should sill work

I use the Samsung keyboard and have no problems with using the Spen for handwriting in any application including texting. To have the handwriting option immediately available when you pull out the pen click on Language & Input>On-screen keyboard>Samsung Keyboard>Handwriting and enable Pen detection. You can easily switch back to the standard keyboard with a simple tap of the keyboard icon in the bottom left corner.

I apologize for my late response. I really wish I could get some sort of notification when I receive a one. Anyway, thank you for your input. I've got to find a way to learn to use my pin for writing. I detest writing all because my handwriting looks like cow manure and I always end up erasing what I've written, then I give up, however I really would love to learn how to write better with my palm on the screen and etc. I'm an artist as well, I can't even draw using this pen because I'm afraid to put my darn palm down.

If you want notifications on a thread go to the top of the thread and click the eye on the top right to watch the thread.

OK. So I've re-enabled the Samsung keyboard and I'll give the spen another go to see if my hand writing improves.

If your screen is picking up the palm of your hand (or other touches), try Settings -- Display and turn Accidental touch protection ON
