Can you use a smartphone on the Verizon Prepaid Tablet plan?

I may just be terrible at searching forums (hint: I am - BUT I tried, several times) but does anybody know if you can use a smartphone for the Prepaid Tablet data plan that Verizon offers? I have a Motorola DROID 2 but I have family that pays for another basic cell phone for talk/text already, and I just want this for the data. I'm hoping it works. Thanks folks!

As far as I know, if you try to activate a cell phone on a prepaid tablet data only plan, Verizon will detect the cell phones number and reject the activation. So the short answer is "No, you cannot".

Thank you for the quick reply. I wonder if I call them and tell them my story and exaggerate a little about the quality of the phone's earpiece (disabling the ability to make phone calls - it was at least a little scratchy) if they'd pull some strings.

Highly unlikely, every dealing I have had with Verizon showed me they don't care about their customers and just want money (the reason I am no longer with Verizon)

Well, it never hurts to ask. If they say "No" you haven't lost a thing, but they might say "Yes". It's a Win/breakeven deal.

Good Luck!
