Root Canadian Captivate Users

Hello All,

I have looked on the forums, but I haven't come across my answer, hopefully someone can give me a quick tip.

I live in Ontario, and I am on Rogers, so I have a SGH-i896 running stock 2.3.3. If I flash to the Corn kernel to get root, can I flash to a custom rom after, or are they designed for U.S. phone carriers? I pretty much live on my phone, so I need as little downtime as possible. I have already ordered a jig in case I nuke my phone lol.

Thanks for the help.

I pm'd a Canadian Dev over at XDA (TRusselo) and here is the chat:

Basically they are looking to use something like the Corn Kernel, where you can flash it, then root from recovery and it has CWM already ready already

They are running stock Rogers GB.

Thanks

Thanks very much Captivate Master. We all bow down to you! I will let you know how it goes once my jig gets here :)

Hey,

So I tried a 2.3.3 Designgears prerooted kernel. It booted weirdly, then bootlooped. I then figured I have nothing to lose, and flashed a KH3 Boog 2.3.5 Kernel which has worked perfectly. The only weird thing, is that after charging the phone to 100% once, the status bar at the top always says charged now (not the battery indicator on the right, but a notification icon on the left).

I can totally live with that. That being said, I did not factory reset or put a new rom on, I just used the kernel for root.

What rom are you using currently? I have been toying with the idea of wiping and trying out a rom, just don't know which one to try.... So many options!

Hey Geeve,

Some themes came out for Legend 3.4 today.

How is your GPS on 3.0? I'm running 3.4 w/ Corn 7.06 and its terrible.

Thanks!!! downloaded and ugraded :D I really don't know about GPS. I will test it today. I never use it personally, but I am using the kernel that it flashed. The devs have reported some strange things happening with newer Corn Kernels.
