Canadian sms issue: received time stamp locked to EST

bluntegg

Newbie
i think this is probably the best forum to post the issue as this was fixed with cupcake for US users.

check out: Rogers HTC Dream/Magic Android Timestamp Problem | Android in Canada Blog and comment there as well

basically for cdns, all received text messages are locked to EST. i'm in BC so mine are 3 hrs ahead, alberta 2 hours, ontario/que people probably dont notice anything wrong.

a bug was logged with google: Issue 2859 - android - Time Stamp Problem on Rogers Branded Phones - Google Code

based off another bug from us phones: Issue 1305 - android - Recieved SMS timestamps incorrect on non-tmobile networks - Google Code

please post your location, if you are experiencing the issue, and by how many hours you are off. also pls comment at androidincanada as well as the logged google bug so rogers fixes this ASAP. makes threaded messages completely useless. :(

EDIT: WORKAROUND (sort-of) i've been using chompsms instead of the the messaging program, and it seems to thread everything correctly. chomp for whatever reason puts your time stamp on the same time zone as the received, so if you are replying to a received text with EST time stamp, chomp makes yours EST as well.

works for sending too... the initial msg you send will show your proper time, the reply will in est, then when you reply it will be in eastern, threading properly. rogers still needs to fix this though!

i got the magic on june 2 the next day i called about this issue and the first guy didnt help at all. I phoned again and this time the tech support actually understood the problem. I we did some trouble shooting by texting with other cell phones and switching the sim card and we did confirm that it was an issue between the phone and the network. as of right now it has been 4 days with no resolution.

I've got the same issue with my HTC Magic on Rogers in Vancouver.
My time stamps are three hours forward, presumably on EST.

I'm using ChompSMS to work around this, because it will at least put the messages in the order that they arrive, regardless of the time.

same issue here. I was wondering why all my Sent messages jumped to the top of the thread! stupid Rogers.

i fixed it somehow. All i did was set Time & Date on manual and change the time around, then i set it back on automatic and it's fine now.
Don't know if that'll solve anyone elses issues, let us know!

edit: it's gone back to the way it was. shame really, it's kind of a big issue for heavy texters. I use text for work and kinda need it to be threaded and accurate.

yeah, I'm in vernon, bc and I'm getting it 3 hours ahead
when I talked to rogers tech support they said that they knew about it
but that's it..
he didn't mention that they were working on it
so I asked if they were
and he said yes but in a way that gave me the impression that they weren't really

I called today and got the "we're working on it" line.

I also inquired about the paid apps in Canada, and he said that it was HTC's call, and I'd have to speak with them.. so I don't think he knew what was going on. :p

Anyways, these issues are pretty minor and I'm loving this phone.

My phone has this problem too. Magic user in Alberta, tests are all 2 hours ahead.
But as stated chompsms at least threads everything properly regardless of time stamp.

By default, Rogers Magic has been set to automatically use the network-provided date, time zone, and time. To manually change these settings, first disable the Automatic option under the Date & time setting.
To manually set the date, time zone, and time:
Press HOME > MENU and then touch Settings.
Scroll down and touch Date & time.
Clear the Automatic check box.
Touch Set date, Set time zone, and Set time to change these settings respectively.

got this off htc site

ive spoken with many ppl with rogers regarding this and some high up ppl as well... this problem is caused by a faulty tower or something as i was told and it WILL be fixed this month (hopefully) with an update that rogers will release... however with the new htc hero i think they might wait a bit longer and release that build update and fix this issue as well... thats my guess

That has nothing to do with it, my time is right, the text message times are just wrong.

Any update on this at all?
