Root Cannot boot new ROMs after flashing Nexus One 2.3.6

Nexus One 2.3.6
I've rooted my Nexus One and decided to try a customized ROM.

Using ROM Manager I wiped and installed the new ROM (Runnymede) from SD. Tried to boot. No luck. Boot is frozen at the "X". Repeated the install several times then gave up.

Tried using 4EXT and same results. Tried different ROMs, same results. The only good thing is that I'm able to restore to the 2.3.6 ROM each time without any trouble.

I even upgraded ROM Manager to get access to download premium ROMs no luck. With these I'm stuck when boot into recovery ("white triangle over a green android figure")

These are the ROMs I've tried so far:
Runnymede_AOI_V6.0.4.3_Special_Edition.zip
update-cm-7.1.0-N1-signed.zip
and CyanogenMod 7.1.0
E-ExtremeMod 2.0

Any help in what I might be doing wrong would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Stick with 4EXT touch recovery, its the best.
so does the roms u tried require ext partitions?
u might need to format ur card (optional)
in recovery wipe everything except sd 3 times and try flashing a new rom. i currently use QND MIUI A2SD (XDA)
