Cannot connect .edu email

Hello! My mom and I recently upgraded from blackberrys to androids. I got a Samsung Galaxy S2 and she got a Motorola Electrify2 but neither of us seem to be able connect out .edu emails.

Samsung Galaxy S2
Email: email-here@student.kirkwood.edu
I don't know what type of email it is, POP etc. Also I do not know what port or any other options to pick.

Motorola Electrify 2
Email: emailhere@hawkeyecollege.edu
