Help Cannot connect to peer to peer(adhoc) networks

This happens with both my DX and my DX2, whenever I attempt to connect to a adhoc network broadcasting from either my laptop or a tethering phone, it will say "the application settings(process com.android.settings)has stopped unexpectedly".......does anyone else have this problem? or know how to fix it?
