Cannot delete Imported group in Contacts

I have a lot of duplicate contacts in my list, all belonging to a group that has the name Imported. Last fall I did a hard reset, but I don't recall importing in any special way, just synced with Google. This group does not show up in Google online.

I am not able to delete the individual entries with the "Imported" group name or delete the entire group. I deleted the entire contact list and then re-synced with Google, and the group was there again. It won't be deleted.

Any ideas about how to get rid of these contacts? Thanks.
