Help Cannot disconnect from wifi in android 8.1 like in 7.0

My point is there is no way to "disconnect" only. The option doesn't exist, only the "forget" option
is available. It's seems like the developers forgot to add the button "disconnect" as there is an
empty space to the right of the "forget" button. Why would they omit what was available on the
7.0 and 7.1 versions of android aka Nougat. Now, the result is that every time I change networks,
or am configuring the WiFi I must re enter the password or pass-code all over again.
It makes me want to pull my hair out. Another thing with 8.1 is you can no longer sort by type in the file manager. The option no longer exist. Is this a cruel joke or what? I've been working with computers for a long time, by doing that it's an attempt to make the user stupid or just to annoy the hell out of us.
It's far too constraint and locked down. The phone OS' should be written to be more configurable by the user, or more flexible that is.

curious as to what phone you have?
on my note 8 which just got updated to android pie 9.0 there is no disconnect option just forget.

and it might be phone specific issue, but my file manager (Samsung's "My Files" app) i can sort it by file type.

A file manager is just an app. It's not the same on all phones, it's just whichever one the manufacturer included, so isn't part of the OS. There are plenty of file managers out there that can sort by type, so just use one of those (I've just checked that Solid Explorer, X-plore and Root Explorer all have this). There's nothing special about a manufacturer's app, so no reason to stick with what they give you if it isn't up to scratch.

As for the disconnect option, that was indeed dropped at some point. You can of course select a different network, or turn WiFi off, so you don't have to "forget" in order to change networks (or just not use one), but the disconnect option is gone at the OS level.

Hi,
Got it. My new phone is the uleFone Armor 6 rugged phone (red). I love it! Fastest phone I've had yet.
Thanks for the heads up on sorting by type in pie 9.0. Regarding the sorting options in 8.1, I've come up
with a work-around for the time being. I created folders labeled as the file types. Pdf files, Image files,
Text files etc., Thereby streamlining access to files. It's evident that the developers designing these OS'
probably don't use them. On an Interesting note, I noticed that in android 5.0 and 7.0 once sorted, the
files would stay sorted the way I chose even when the phone is restarted. THAT is good programing.
You always give the option to the use,r and when you change something you ADD, never TAKE AWAY
from a previous version. And if you do take away or remove, you leave the user the option to revert back
to the original state or method.

Thanks,

Heckyjr.

Hi,
Thanks for your input. Inasmuch as I've tried several file manager apps such as ES file explorer I found that the
overkill with bells and whistles and excess convolution wasn't worth the change. Turns out that these apps
interfere with too many other configurations on the phone itself. I'll just make folders and categorize them by
type. Regarding the disconnect option. grant it I haven't tried it on this phone yet but on all other previous phones
when wifi is turned off, when turned on again it connects automatically to the same available network. I switch
from my jobs network to my carrier data link, then to optimum like for example. I do this on a regular basis
through out the day.

Thanks,

Heckyjr.

I don't understand what you mean by a file manager interfering with other configurations (though I ditched ES about 8 years ago, so don't know what it does now). The ones I name are things I use currently, and never had any problems with.

Yeah, if you turn WiFi off and on it probably will try to connect to the same network. But you if you want to connect to a different wifi network you can just select it from the list and tell it to connect to that one instead, which in my experience it will stay with unless it loses contact (when it will try to connect to another known network if available). This works for me when I'm at some place with multiple networks and I want to use a particular one. But your usage sounds different from mine, since I'll typically just connect it to the network at the site I'm on that day and let it fall back to cellular if needed.
