Root Cannot download OPS file to root Admire ?

I am trying to root my Samsung Admire 2.3.6 and although I was able to find an alternate download site for the older version of Odin but I cannot find the .OPS file I need in order to do the root. Is there anywhere I can download this thing or some other way I can root the 2.3.6? Please DO NOT link me back to the ODIN guide because the links there do not work any longer.

You must be confuses there is no ops to root the 2.3.6 nor the 2.3.4 for that matter to root the 2.3.6 you need to first put install cwm onto your phone by using odin. The ops file is needed to flash cwm onto the phone comes with our version of Odin. The ops file doesnt provide root is just tells Odin how to work and run properly. DO NOT I REPEAT DO NOT USE A DIFFERNT ODIN THAN THE ONE INTENDED FOR US. could cause issues

Edit: okay so i just checked it out and yep the link seems to be dead on the Odin guide. hold on let me put the necessary files into my dropbox and give you the link then go back to the Odin thread and follow the instructions.

second edit: here you go the Odin and ops file that was originally in that link.

Thank you so much for your help, although I wasn't confused. :) I simply meant that I could find downloads of the version of Odin needed for this root rather than the current 3.07 version that is most commonly found when searching Odin.

I did manage to find the download link for Odin and the ops on a YouTube video but now I am having another problem. I have downloaded and installed the drivers and my computer will recognize the phone in regular USB mass storage mode with no issues but when I shut down the phone and enter into download mode as the instructions state the computer gives me an error and Odin cannot recognize the phone. I am properly entering download mode and see the correct screen on my Admire but get an error message from Windows.

Could this be an issue with Windows 8? I have tried a few compatibility modes on Odin and reinstalls of the drivers with no luck.

Okay its a problem with windows 8 and the drivers. The drivers arent compatible with that OS. The drivers were released waaay before Win8 so thats why. I would have to say go and see if samsung has the latest drivers for our phone and if not then youll have to find a computer running a lower OS.
My ex had the issue when she upgraded to Win8, and still has then.

Ugh, I was afraid of that. Thankfully my mother has an older Windows laptop that I can use but hopefully it's new enough to have a 2.0 port. Thanks again for your help!

im running windows 8, and at this moment my admire is currently connected via usb debugging.
samsung will have the latest drivers for you here: Support - More Cell Phone Providers SCH-R720 | Samsung Cell Phones
just select software at bottom.
download and install and reboot your machine.
also, idk if youre using the usb cable that came with your admire..but if not..thats probably also why youre having problems with debugging.
oh, and you also may wanna check if you have usb debugging checked on your phone in settings/applications/development

Sorry Boneface, but that is not correct. I have the current drivers and as I said in a previous reply I am able to connect easily via debugging mode, however I cannot connect while in download mode. [Odin] Clockworkmod Recovery; there are the directions I am following to install and as you see I am not using debugging mode. I am also using the correct Samsung U9 cable. As already stated this is clearly a Windows 8 issue, trust me when I say I did plenty of googling, reading, troubleshooting, and forum searching before resorting to posting.

I was getting an error that the Windows could not recognize the USB device when trying to connect to Odin in download mode, I don't currently have an image of the error I was receiving. However, I was able to successfully connect using my mother's Windows XP machine and my device is now rooted.

and btw the link that was put up to the samsung website was to the generic Admire not the MetroPCS Admire. This is the actual link. Support - More Cell Phone Providers SCH-R720 | Samsung Cell Phones
and its weird that it works with their win8 cause the drivers says XP, Vista, and 7.

But its good that you are rooted now, dont use Titanium Backup on the 2.3.6 btw. for some unknown reason it unroots the phone and you have to reroot again

pretty much any drivers, software, utilities that worked with windows 7 will work on windows 8..otherwise i wouldnt be using windows 8..
