Help cannot get 2.3.4 ??!!

dejay68

Newbie
So, I have an branded UK HTC Sensation from carphonewarehouse but cannot upgrade from 2.3.3, anyone know why ? thanks in advance

2.3.3 w/HTC Sense is the latest official release for that phone. We don't know yet if HTC will update it to 2.3.4, 2.3.5, wait for ICS, or stop altogether.

I got the update through over a week ago, my branded UK Vodafone sensy is now running 2.3.4
Should hopefully be with u soon, vodafone always gets updates exclusively 1st

^This is the better answer.

In that case, if your phone is carrier branded, you'll get it when your carrier pushes it. If your phone is unbranded, you can check for system updates, or install HTC Sync on your desktop and have it update for you.

Vodafone and T-mobile already started receiving 2.3.4
O2 is in process of testing 2.3.4 and will be realised soon.

Do you have a link to the source of that information? Since HTC denied that on their fb page.

I cant provide a link 2 solid information on this, but being with vodafone from the start of android (minus when i was with tmobile and i owned the G1) ive without fail received android updates before the majority of the android community who isent on vodafone. Ive read many times (combination of blogs and threads on more then 1 android related site) other people claiming this as fact, i cant dismiss this statement altogether as i experience it 1st hand everytime.

I dont claim that its fact, i say it because thats what i have experienced.

Not to mention, mistakes on posts from the HTC facebook page in the past has been occasionally slightly incorrect or misleading from what i gather. Again not disputing anything you have said but one can only speculate so much...

Not always the case at all.

My unbranded Desire got 2.2 before any carrier handsets, always got the updates first, as with my old Nokia's n95, n96.

Thats why I wanna see a statement about Vodafone and the sensation udates

Cheers

I think he meant in relation to other carriers, not when compared to unlocked devices. Carriers tend to want to test updates before allowing them to be released over their networks. Vodafone may either be faster with their testing, or have lower testing standards, thus allowing their updates to be pushed faster than other networks.

This is all speculation on my part, but being a carrier branded device will always lead to delayed updates when compared to the unlocked version.

That may be right in relation to other carriers, Vodafone are fast at getting the updates out since they started keeping there firmware clean with hardly any branding compared to the likes of orange.

Unbranded usually are first though of course.

Yeah, I know that - Vodafone apparently have the exclusive as they released the phone first. I'd imagine unbranded users will get it next month (or just flash the RUU on XDA)

Well, I've just received the update to 2.3.4 and first impressions are wow super fast :-) thanks for all the replies guys

I have an unbranded UK Sensation on Vodafone, checked for the update at 11:30am UK time and it said there was none available. Checked again a few hours later and it was there. So if anyone else is waiting keep trying. Weird that Vodafone branded got it first, given Voda add their crapware on top of the HTC Sense stuff.

After the 2.3.4 today I got another update for an application (didn't quite understand what was updated, as the description in Italian was not clear), around 400kb

Got the update just before midday. First impressions,... seems much smoother scrolling menu's etc, and maybe a little quicker in general. Seems to be a tiny bit more free RAM aswell. Too soon to report any changes in battery performance.

Cheers

just downloaded it on my sensation, for me i find it alot faster than 2.3, scrolling, especially ram before i was getting between 17%-23% now im getting 23%-30% -mainly at 27%
