Root Cannot get phone to retain new contact numbers

I've added new contacts to my phone and made sure they were saved, also added them to friends list. I had to reset my phone after it started screwing up. I used the LG flash tool and then went through the regular steps to root and so on. My problem is that I lose any new contacts I've created within the last couple of months. They are just gone and I cannot access them anywhere.
I use the stock google gmail account and sync to that. How can I make sure that all my contacts are getting saved properly and will show up if I do have to do a complete reset again?

Have you tried checking contacts online to make sure they successfully synced to your Google account? If they're not in there they won't be on the phone after resetting and resyncing.
