Help Cannot install APK

zlaqh

Lurker
I looked through a few pages of threads, but didn't see any that was similar so I decided to upload and see if anyone has the same issues and/or if anyone knows how I could fix the issue.

Recently, I was trying to install an APK that was saved on my phone, but I'm not able to. It's not saved on a microSD card, just on the phone memory. Before, I was able to install APK's by going to My Files and then choosing which APK to install and simply by pressing on "install" the file would install. When I tried to do it recently, it didn't even look like when I pressed on "install" that the touch even registered (the colour of the button changing), while "cancel" next to it works just fine.

Now this might be a bit of a stretch, but the last time I installed an APK in this manner was before the Jelly Bean update. Could there have been something in the update that disabled this feature or is there something obvious that I'm missing? I have install from unknown sources on and tried to install various APK's yet they all have the same result.

Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you.

Go to Security settings and make sure Unknown Sources is checked

EDIT sorry man i totally missed that

My reply sounds a little stupid but having screen filter enabled does not allow you to install apk's for some reason.

I also, at times, cannot install an app. Would you please be so kind as to tell me how to turn this "screen filter" thing off and on?

many thanks!

Screen filter is an app downloaded from play store. If you have not downloaded it then it would not be on and so wouldn't be the problem. Im not sure what the problem is then. I'm sure someone will though.

Today I went through my applications and deleted a lot of apps that I no longer use and then tried to install the APK's again and this time it worked. I suppose it might have been that my phone didn't have enough memory, but I'm not sure that might be the case because I had 2GB of memory before I deleted old apps and about 2.5GB after. There was nothing else that I did to my phone so I guess this might have been the problem.

Thank you to all that replied.

Sounds more like you were trying to install an .apk that was an older version than one you already had. Or you didn't clear the apps cache and prior updates. And of course, some 3rd party apk's don't like to play nice with official Play Store apk's.
