Root Cannot Root HTC Desire PVT4 Android 2.2.2

Hi All,
I am new to the rooting world and have decided to take the leap and join this amazing group whom are getting the most of their devices. I have done alot of reading around the subject and familiar with Unrevoked , Revolution, HBOOT, S-On, etc.

Unfortunately I cannot get the my HTC Desire Rooted?

Hi dipakhtc, and welcome to AF :)

With that software there should be no problem. Have you tried copying and pasting the Revolutionary key? For some reason they are pretty hard to type - found this myself when testing, that copy and paste was the only way I could make it work.

Also, why won't your phone install a terminal emulator? What error do you get? That's very odd. Though if you use 4Ext recovery you don't need to worry about the erase size, so this bit isn't essential, but as it's just an ordinary app install it's very odd that it won't work.

Hi,

Thank you for the quick reply, taken advice on-board and just tried revolution again......feel stupid as the beta key was a I instead of l. Hence have now managed to get S-Off through Revolution.

Any recommendation where to go next.

What I would like to achieve:

1. Upgrade to later stable Android (Guess that is Gingerbread)
2. Be able to use to SYNC with Outlook
3. More Space on internal memory
4. Remove all the HTC bloatware
5. Speed up the processor
6. Load APPs direct to SD card.

Assistance appreciated.

Your next port of call should be the root memory faq in the all things root guide section. Then have a look at the room list at XDA linked from the guide.

Come back & ask if that doesn't answer all your questions.

Hi,

Please Help me i have htc desire

BRAVO PVT4 SHIP S-OFF
HBOOT-1.20.0001
MICROP - 051d
TOUCH PANEL-SYNT0101
RADIO- 5.17.05.23

I want to root it but m confused coz some forums shows u can't root it Please help me:(

There is a lot of out of date info lying around the web :)

As long as that is hboot 1.02 rather than 1.20 (which I've never heard of) then you just need to read and understand the guide to rooting using Revolutionary in this forum. That should contain everything you need.

The older unrevoked method won't work with this software, which I guess is what you've read.

sorry bro its my mistake its actually

HBOOT 1.02

and tell me please what should i do now its already S-OFF so should i process revolutionary step which is i think used for to convert S-On to S-Off or i directly jump to unrevoked method which will root my cellphone but also m bit confuse because in your thread its mention if its 1.02 then i have to READ THIS which is a link but when i click on it. It sends me back to the same page which confusing me, also tell me bro i have download better terminal pro to check the erase size but command is not working?

Yes, that link is for unrevoked, which won't work with hboot 1.02. The guide you want is this one (couldn't link earlier as was on Tapatalk, which is a hassle for linking).

If it's 1.02 and S-Off I guess you have one of the rare ones that came S-Off all along. I'm not sure whether the hboot will let you fastboot flash a custom recovery - if it will then you can skip the revolutionary bit. Otherwise you'll need to follow that just to get the revolutionary hboot instead of the current one.

If you use 4Ext Touch recovery (link in that guide) you don't need to do the erase size check.

What I'd suggest is download the custom recovery (in step 2) and the rooting file (step 4b), and set up fastboot (following the guide linked in step 3). Then skip Revolutionary and try to install the recovery (step 6). If that works, you can then proceed to root as in step 7.

If installing the recovery fails, use the command "fastboot devices" to check that the phone is communicating with the fastboot program on your PC - if it returns the phone's serial number then that is working, if not then you need to get that going. If fastboot is working but you can't flash recovery then that would mean that the stock hboot doesn't support that fastboot command. In that case you will need to run Revolutionary anyway, which will install a custom hboot which does do this.

Thanks a lot at last i rooted my cellphone :-) but i have a one last question how can i upgrade my OS from gingerbread to ICS?

Recommend me a link please :-)

Thanks again :-)

In the Desire All Things Root Guide sticky post in this forum you'll find a link to a list of ROMs. This is the index thread for the xda-developers Desire Android Development forum. You'll find most available ROMs in there, categorised so that you can easily find JB or ICS ROMs.

I've never loaded a JB ROM, and used 1 ICS one for 1 morning, so can't really recommend any particular one.

Thanks.... But i heard that after installing JB or ICS camera doesn't work on HTC Desire is it true? or if u know some better ROM then recommend me?

I think that still cameras work on many JB and most ICS, but video is dodgy on many JB ROMs. The ROM's thread should tell you the status (hopefully in the first post, or something linked from it).

It really depends on what you want from a ROM. I'm using a very stripped-down Gingerbread ROM, but that might not suit everyone and only really makes sense to try with a custom hboot. Are there any particular features you are looking for?

As long as you take a backup from recovery first (a "nandroid" backup) you can simply swap back if you don't like a ROM, so it's simple enough to just try a few out and see what you like.
