Help Cannot select things from recovery

I'm trying to do a master hard hard reset.

But after entering recovery mode I cannot select anything

• OR the thing reboots itself while scrolling through the options

• OR when an option is highlighted, the power button (which supposes to select the option) simply turns off the phone.

That's what I get for reading instructions online instead of reading the damn recovery instructions.

• I can only navigate with volume down.
• Volume Up is used to select

After selecting Recovery (Power+VolUp):

• Volume Up and Down navigate
• Power buttons selects
