Cannot set "FROM" address of emails from Android

ben6747

Lurker
I am using the mail app that comes with Android 4.1.1. Here is my situation, which is similar to numerous threads from the past but seemingly without responses:

1) I have many emails tied to my gmail account via gmail's POP3 interface
2) I want the emails to go through gmail so that I can filter them. The intention is to only have a subset of the many emails that I receive go to my device. Things like newsletters and less important email can be read at my leisure on my laptop.
3) I have checked the entry "Reply from the same address the message was sent to" within the gmail configuration settings. When I reply to emails from within gmail on my laptop, this works properly.
4) When I try to reply to emails from the Android email app, it only replies from my default gmail account. I cannot even select alternative email accounts in which to reply from. I was hoping these alternate email address would be fed in via gmail. I do NOT want to explicitly set up accounts for them because then I will receive unwanted emails (since the gmail filtering will be bypassed).
5) I am having this same problem using the gmail and K-9 apps on my device (a Samsung Note 2 on AT&T LTE).

HELP!

Maildroid is the only app that might support the setup you need, and I'm not sure it does - I don't use it. Worth checking into though.

Thanks for the reply. I am not familiar with Maildroid, so gave it a try. Still the same problem -- mainly it locks the reply-to address to the gmail account email address that the device is tied to, without an apparent way to select the other email addresses.

Ben,

I just tried what you're looking for (I think) using Maildroid and it worked fine. I sent myself a test mail using one of my gmail accounts. When it arrived I chose the 'reply' arrow and replied to that gmail message both with a pop3 account and another gmail account. Both replies were received.

Look for the partial arrow in the upper right corner of the send from box. There, you'll see all the accounts you have registered with MD.

Btw, MD allows aliases for each account so the person receiving your message sees your legal or nickname rather than yourname@myprovider.net.

Cheers
