Help Cannot update to gingerbread through Kies!!!

Hi I have a Galaxy Ace with Carphone Warehouse firmware, but whenever I open Kies it tells me "this version of the device cannot be updated"

This morning I updated Kies to the latest version and still no luck. I've looked through the forums and seen some posts where people have updated their galaxy with this firmware to Gingerbread so I am at a loss.

Any ideas
 
Do you have any security like norton or Mc Afee?? If so make sure the trust level is set to allow all for samsung kies software. This was the problem I had, also on carphone warehouse (cpw). Hope this helps.
 
Hi, I have Norton and I have made sure I allow all parts of keys in the firewall set-up, but it still doesn't update??

I'm at a complete loss right now :(
 
is your phone rooted? or have you flashed any other rom (including the samfirmware ones)
 
In other thread , a guy had some problem with Kies. It was due to windows vista. What OS are you on?
 
hi dude. had the same problem with u while trying to update my little ace to gingerbread.

tried EVERYTHING recommended by other forumers, but none work. looks like win7 and kies doesn't want to be friends.

its not just about the connection with the phone via cable but i can't even start my kies!

so, i just update mine thru Odin, which was really not difficult at all. and now, my little ace is running happily on gingerbread 2.3.4

hi akshat.

there're two answers for your question:

1) he's the major god in Norse mythology and he rules Asgaard

2) a flashing tool for android phones. flashing here means either upgrading or downgrading your phone's operating system.

and since we're in an android forum, answer number two should be the most relevant...
