Cannot upgrade to Gingerbread

Hi All,

I am trying to upgrade my Samsung Galaxy SL from 2.2 froyo to 2.3 gingerbread as the update is officially available , however when I connect through Kies , it recognizes the phone and shows that the firmware upgrade is available , and when i accept terms and conditions and try to move to the next step of upgrade , Kies gives an error message " connection lost" and then it tries to find the phone again and shows that there is a firmware upgrade available and it just keeps going on in a loop endlessly.

Kies latest version 2.1.0 is already installed on my Sony Vaio Win 7 64 bit machine , still the same loop of upgrade -> disconnect -> reconnect -> upgrade when i try to use Kies for upgrdae.

Any suggestions pls ?

Kies is sucky.

Use odin. Get the latest firmware from sammobile.com/firmware
You'll have the set of instructions there too.

Thanks , however it seems too messy to upgrade like this , I wonder why Samsung cant fix kies so that the OS upgrade is as easy and simple as any ios upgrade through iTune.

Upgrading using odin is one simple thing mate.
It just sounds like something messy,
I'm a newbie too. Simple, easy and fast.

here the major problem is with your internet speed connection, during an upgrade it directly flashes phone rom so you need a very high internet speed do nothing while update not even utorrent or browsing or any othr downloads do it at night when bandwiths are most avaliable, it has to upgrade for sure or last stage FACTORY RESET the phone btw.. download lates version of kies
