Help Cant access the free openzone internet

Hi all,

Ive just received delivery of my new Samsung Galaxy Ace yesterday, excited about having the free openzone internet on it, after downloading the Orange Wifi app as instructed by orange(via a wireless conection at my parents house) I took the phone home looking forward to browsing the apps etc. When I tried to it connects, but i think to BT Fon openzone not BT Openzone, which isnt included in my package. Now I know both are available from my house, and there is no reason for the samsung not picking up the free to use one as i have a kindle which works just fine off the free connection via 3G which i beleive is what the Ace uses. Can anyone instruct as to what steps one should take to access the free internet as its a bit gutting having looked forward to using it only to be met with the afore mentioned.

Many Thanks,

Tony.

I'm not exactly getting your full point here as you refer to downloading Oranges 'WIFI' app then go on to say your kindle picks up the '3G'.
Are you trying to connect with wifi or 3G?

Ok, i dont have broadband in my house. I bought the Ace on the understanding of having the free access to the internet as advertised(whether this be via 3g or wifi)I followed the instruction text sent to the phone instructing me to download the orange wifi app from the link sent. I downloaded this, and as stated above I cannot access the internet. How do I access the internet?

Tony.

Yes but I'm asking which one of these you are trying to access the internet with on your ace?
You can't use both. Is your wifi switched on? Slide your finger down from the top of the screen to bring the bar up. Is wifi switched on there? If not then do you have a 3G or H with 2 little arrows underneath it on the same part as where the clock, signal and battery strength are?

Im at parents at the moment, so im connected to their plusnet wifi, but as i remember i tried turning the wifi off to see if that made a difference(as i remembered the kindle had to have the wifi switched off to access 3g)but nothing. Interestingly ive checked the settings screen-wireless and network settings-mobile networks the options from top to bottom are : use packet data (unchecked) Data roaming (unchecked) Access point names (within this i have Orange internet which is the checked option, orange mms and orange broadnband) Use only 2g networks (checked) and network operators (which when i click and try searching for networks i get an error). When i try to change any of the settings(for example try unchecking the use only 2g)it does it but when i close the screen and go back in it has reverted back to the way it was.

Tony

You need to check 'use packet data' and uncheck 'use only 2G' . Also turn your wifi off when your home before you try this. wifi will always over ride 3G if it's available. Seems like you have yours turned on if you're using it at your parents.

Excellent cheers buddy ill give it a try. I take it the checking/unchecking cant happen untill the wifi is switched off?Hence why the settings dont save after exiting the screen.

ok i use openzone and btfon sometimes

u use the app and add your account details and password

you then switch on wifi,,, search and find openzone.

connect to openzone,

when connected go to the app and click logon to openzone.,...when its finished logging on you will then be connected and able to use the net.

not using the app to log on will result in you connecting to the network but unable to load anything.

packet data shouldnt really have anything to do with it as its basically your piggy-backing on a neighbours wireless as they have opted in to openzone or btfon. its not a mobile data connection.

respect gammer :D

Lol no worries. With him saying his kindle picks the openzone 3G up I was going down the easy route :P
