Help Can't add Gmail to mail app

I switched from a Samsung GS3 and so far I really like the RMHD.

The one problem I'm having is with Gmail. I want to add my Gmail account to the native mail app, but it won't let me. It gives me the following error:

Device is not allowed to synchronize; please check if the number of devices connected to this account has reached the server's limit.

How do I fix this? I have gmail on my ipad, but that's it. I tried searching the web and couldn't find anything. Same goes for Gmail, I went through all of the settings and couldn't get anywhere.

I have no problems with the Gmail app, but I want to use the native app. I've never had this problem on any of my other Androids (Infuse>Evo>Evo 3D>SGS2>Evo 4G LTE>SGS3). I've always reset the phones before selling/giving them away so I'm not sure what's going on.

HELP!!!!

Not that it helps but I just checked my RMHD and get the same message. I use the Gmail app anyway and like it so it's not a problem for me. Just wanted to let you know it is not isolated to you RMHD.

Someone else had this problem and IIRC he had to get into the Gmail control panel and remove the duplicate authorizations for his phone. Never done it myself so not much use other than that lead. Could probably search for it here if you can't solve it yourself.
 
Thanks for the info, I was able to find my previous devices in the Dashboard, but there is no way to remove them. I googled it and it appears that I'm not the only one.

This seems strange, there must be a way to do this. Otherwise everyone who uses gmail/android is going to run into this eventually.

I'm not even sure how to get in contact with Google to see if they can help. Does anyone know of a site that I can use to send them a help request?

I'm just guessing here...

If you can't manage devices from the dashboard,

What if you go into your old devices and delete the google account from the device? Would that free up a "subscription"? Of course, this assumes that you still have the old devices.
 
That's what I was thinking. I deleted it from my GSIII, but it didn't help.

I'm kind of stuck, not sure what to do from here.

I'm having the same issue with my wife's phone. She doesn't like the gmail app even though it works fine. When I try to set up her account on the native email app I get the same error message. Haven't found a solution to this yet . . .

I finally made head-way into this problem. I set everything manually:

If your email program is not listed above, try these generic settings:

Incoming Settings:

User name: your Gmail account name
Password: your Gmail password
IMAP server: imap.gmail.com
Port: 993
Security type: SSL (Accept all certificates)
Authentication method: LOGIN

Outgoing Settings:

SMTP server: smtp.gmail.com
Port: 465
Security type: SSL (Accept all certificates)
- check the box for :Require sign-in"
Authentication method: PLAIN
User name: your Gmail account name
Password: your Gmail password

Hope this helps anyone having the same issues. Good luck.

PS: I am running Jellybean 4.1.2.
 
looks like you got it to work, but for anyone else having problems, its usually because of the 2-step auth. in apps that can not work with the 2-step (ie. Email app)

Google account settings > app password
Generate a password for the app and enter it as your gmail password in the app.
