Help Can't boot device because Google app is disabled

Lurker
I was experimenting with my phone (nexus 5) this afternoon. I wanted to see what happens if I disable the Google app. I did it and as soon as I hit the disable button, the home button stopped responding. I couldn't do much, so I turned the phone off. When I turned it back on, it is now stuck on the point where four colors float around the screen. The device doesn't load completely.
Is there any way to enable the Google app without having to hard factory reset? I don't want to loose my data in the phone.
:o

Um did you have AVG installed on your device? You can send a shout from your PC to your phone via AVG and it will trigger the start screen. In any case, if you don't, try connecting your phone to the computer and see if you can access your files via that. If not then you will have to do a hard reset. And also, theGoogle app is the default launcher on the Nexus 5, without it you won't have a launcher and hence your phone won't start.

Thanks for your reply. No, I don't have AVG installed on my mobile.
My problem is solved now. I tried wiping the cache in Recovery mode and it worked (I can't explain how!). First thing I did after my phone started was to enable the Google app back.
One little stupid idea wasted hours of my time.

The Google app contained your launcher, so I'm not surprised to hear the phone wouldn't respond to the home button or finish booting without it.

Glad you got it though
