Help Can't browse SGS3 from my Mac

I used to have a Samsung Galaxy S (Vibrant). With that phone, on my Mac, I could go to the Bluetooth menu, locate the phone, then go to Browse Device... That was a quick, easy and wireless way to retrieve photos from the phone.

With my new Galaxy S 3, (SGH-T999) I can't do that. I've paired the phone/computer, so I can see the computer from my phone's bluetooth menu. They're definitely successfully paired because I can use the "Send File..." option on my computer's bluetooth menu to send files from my computer to my phone.

But I have no way to retrieve files from my phone. I've also tried the "share->bluetooth" option option on my phone to send a specific photo to my computer. I see the computer under paired devices, but the transfer fails.

Any ideas?

Thanks Hadron. That pointed me to a way to resolve one of the ways to transfer files from phone to computer.

Here's what works now: I can click the bluetooth button on my phone (when looking at a picture) and send it to my computer.

Here's what I did: On my computer, under System Preferences>Bluetooth>Sharing setup... I checked the Bluetooth Sharing option.

But my original problem is still there; I can't browse my phone from my computer. What I notice now is that in the "Services" info about my phone (on my computer System Preferences>Bluetooth>SGH-T999) I don't have an entry called "OBEX File Transfer". My *old* phone (System Preferences>Bluetooth>SGH-T959) *does* have this "OBEX File Transfer" option. (My really old phone - Nokia 6300) has this service too. There's no way I can see to enable the service via a checkbox. That dialog only shows me what's installed.
 
I haven't tried AirDroid yet, although I'm looking to get the Bluetooth solution to work; then it would work even if I'm somewhere without internet access on my computer. (Yeah, I know I can tether, but the whole point of the bluetooth approach is that it was really quick and easy).
 
if your mac and your GS3 are using the same wireless connection, you should be able to use "kies air" app that comes with the phone. kies air uses the wifi connection and a browser so it should not matter if it is on a mac or pc:)

Samsung advertised this phone a being syncable with a mac with Kies which doesn[t work either. I have no way to transfer photos from phone to computer and need to.

hello,

i have a macbook air running 10.7.2 and i can browse my s3 via bluetooth

this is what you need to do ...
1. start bluebooth on your s3
2. start 'bluetooth file' app. if you do not have it, install it.
3. start bluetooth on your mac
4. then click on bluetooth, find your s3 then select browse device

it works for you. the trick is to install 'bluetooth file' app on your s3

** note, i personally prefer airdroid as it's very easier. if you insist on bt, try my steps

Try an app in the Play Store called AirDroid. You can manage files, download files, and upload files via your web browser. The two devices have to be on the same LAN though.
 
Thanks! This worked for me today. I installed the Bluetooth File Transfer application and fiddled with it somewhat. I had it turned on while I connected. (Although I'm on a new laptop now, so I'm not sure if that made a difference.
