Help Can't browse using phone while hotspot active

MY old Desire HD allowed this so I'm surprised the more capable S3 doesn't.

Basically, if the wireless hotspot is active, I cannot use the phone itself to browse the internet. Other applications that use data fail too, such as lookout mobile security.

Is this normal, or is there a setting I've not fiddled with yet?

...Think it's normal, I remember seeing a warning saying as much when I first set up phone as WIFI Hotspot.

it's true for my htc 3g/4g. I can't even get my nexus7 to use my htc phone to surf the web. both side shows that it's connected. My signal icon show gray waves and not it's normal blue waves when i a connect to my wireless network at home. can someone help me please. aloha, yobo

What model / country / carrier s3 do you have?

I've recently moved home. 3 weeks no internet at home. Had laptop tethered and used the browser on the phone simultaneously many times with no issue. I even had massive downloads running from the phone whilst browsing laptop.

Not too different then. Not sure I've tethered in ics though. Been on jb a while now... maybe thats it

I couldn't say. At least once you're on jb, it levels the playing field a little more. But then I'm rooted / custom ROM too.
