Root Can't Charge via USB---charge work around

OK. This isn't really a question just hope that it might on the off chance help someone out there.

A long time ago I was trying to root my phone. Which I successfully did. But for some reason half way through the process I lost the ability to connect my phone to the computer and transfer files.

Not a big deal, I email them, text them, or FTP them. FTP is how I managed to finish the rooting process.

Anyway I bought a power stick for 15 dollars. I am out in the woods a bunch and wanted a way to easily recharge without coming in to a house or my truck.

Well I discovered I can't charge via a usb cable unless it is plugged into an AC adapter. Tried just about everything 4 times to fix the phone.

So it got me to thinking. How does the phone know if it is a usb connection or a regular AC adapter connection? That led me to an answer.

USB has 4 wires. I stripped the cable and cut the two data wires (not the red or black which are power wires. Cut them and leave flush/clean cut from the usb connector side and splice them together on the phone side.

Clarification. Look in the usb connector and you will see 4 metal "tongues" each of these tongues/connectors on a usb cable supply either data or power. The outside two provide power the inner two supply data.

In the cable itself there is a wire for each of the metal connectors. Cut the two for data (non black and non red usually). I used a multimeter to verify I had cut the correct two wires before tapeing up with electrical tape.

OK strip the two cut wires on the phone jack side and twist them together. tape them up with electrical tape. Now tape up all of your work.

Now when I plug my power stick into my commando it shows charging! Heck yeah!!!!
