Can't Connect to Windows 7 Folders

Hi,
I'm a new member with a problem.
I can't get my android phone to connect to my windows folders via wireless connection.
I've done lots of googling and followed the instructions I've found but none have worked so far. I've dowloaded ES File Explorer. My device has internet access wirelessly thru my router, but getting Windows to see my device or getting my device to connect to my homegroup or directly to my IP address is not working & frustrating.
Can anyone help me?

Thanks.

Assuming you're in the same wireless LAN, estrongs should be able to scan for the computer. If scan returns no results, you're probably looking at a firewall issue. Turn them off and retest. Don't overlook the windows firewall too

Another thing would be to see if there is a setting in the Wireless router that partitions WLans separately so that they cannot see other devices... My D-Link had that, and it looks like a good security measure - until you realize you *do* want inter-device connectivity

Thanks for the replies. I'm now using airdroid which is better than another app which was doing a similar job. I also upgraded my router (which was unrelated to this issue) which helped. I've got an external HD connected to that which I can easily access from the wireless network. Now I can stream video directly without having to copy the file over.
