Can't create a google account

Got two Lenovo tablets for my grandsons for Christmas and successfully created an account on one of the tablets and am trying to create an account for the other one. I successfully created a gmail account name, but when I enter a password twice and press "done" nothing happens. The password is longer than 8 characters.

Not sure if this will help, but ensure your wireless is active and you are connecting to the internet. Had a friend with a similar issue and the at the time he was not receiving internet access so the Google servers could not be reached, thus the timeout.
