Help Can't create files on SD card

Hello, newbie here.
I have an LG L41C (tracfone) with an 8GB SD card installed. I have almost 4.5G available on the card. I am NOT rooted, running version 4.4.2....

I am trying to create additional albums in the Gallery. Whenever I try to add an album via the phone, I am getting a message "not enough space on SD card. To free up space, delete unused files". This makes no sense since over half the space on the card is available....

I unmounted the SD card and created additional albums using my laptop in the "Gallery" section. When I re-insert the SD card into the phone, it does not show the albums I created.

What am I missing?

Even phones with external SD cards have an internal SD partition that is mounted at /sdcard. This is what Android uses and your primary "sd card". You'll most likely have something called external sd card or external storage that would represent your inserted card.

You might also note that KitKat (Android 4.4.x) is rather restrictive with permissions so the gallery app may not be able to read any folders that you create outside of the gallery.

Yes, thanks, I had forgotten about the "internal sd" issue. Several of the albums actually have the tiny sd card icon in the bottom corner which do show up on the card when I view it on the computer. Just can't figure out why it won't allow me to use the available 4.5G on the actual card to create new albums from within the phone's Gallery app. It gives me the option when creating a new album to choose internal memory or SD Card, but whenever I choose the card option it gives me that "not enough..." message. Like it's not actually reading the whole 8GB card or something.

Yet another reason to root, I guess....
