Can't Download Apps from Google Play on Huawei Mate 10 Pro

Hi all!

I recently got a Huawei Mate 10 Pro and have been loving it so far, despite being an iPhone user previously and is still getting used to the Android World.

I can't download any apps from Google Play Store (which I also downloaded in an attempt to replace the phone's default app downloader: AppGallery). I've tried clearing the data and caches in Settings, making sure the storage is turned on, making sure I've added my Google account into the phone's setting, and restarting the phone. Nothing works and some help is much appreciated!

Another problem is that the default phone calendar doesn't allow you to add your google account, which means I can't access both my phone and google caledars in one app. I could download the google calendar app (once the download problem is fixed) but I'd really prefer not to manage two calendars. Any solution to this one?

If I've posted in the wrong subforum, feel free to move it to the right subforum or let me know to do that.

Thanks!

You downloaded Google Play Store? Huawei Mate 10 should have come with Play, unless it's a Chinese version phone you've got there? Thing is you can't just download and install Google Play on non-Google variant devices

Where did you buy the phone? And if necessary post the exact version you've got.

It's a gift and it was purchased in China. It didn't come with Play, just the default AppGallery (maybe because it's Pro?). It's running Android 8.0.0.

I suspect I would need to root the phone, maybe? Huawei is not making it easy, because I have to have a Huawei ID but both US and Canada are not in the Country list (a must-have to give your phone number and receive a verification code - I was able to register online but can't log in on my phone).

That variant Mate 10 Pro is intended for sale and use in mainland China only. And to register and activate the account, it does require a Chinese (+86) mobile number from a Chinese carrier.

I'm pretty sure that attempting to root it won't work and maybe currently impossible to root. And there's nothing else that can be done with it.

Yes you can download from the internet, i also got a mate 10 pro from China and doesn't come with play store, I just open the explorer and downloaded the play store from there. Everything works fine.

Despite what I posted earlier, with PRC variant Huawei Mate phones you can install the Google Play Store from the stock AppGallery app store. I have now got a Mate 10, and Play Store installs and works no problem on it, although if in China it still requires a VPN to use it.
