Help Can't download apps from playstore

I just got my father an s4, and it was working fine until google play store stopped allowing me to download games etc. It just gets stuck at installing. I cleared the cache and uninstalled updates and it worked. But I noticed when google play updates to the latest version it stops working. Any ideas?
 
Have you switched the phone off - then booted again? Not just a Restart. Complete shut down. Try before you do Factory Reset. Neil.
