Can't edit existing Contacts

I've been having a very strange problem with my Samsung Galaxy Light (Android 4.2.2, T-Mobile service). I had the SIM card replaced a couple of weeks ago because I was getting a WiFi calling error code, but that seemed to have been fixed with the new SIM card... but this is relevant because I believe the replacement of the SIM card has produced this error.

What happens is, I've got my Google Contacts synced from my Google account. When I go to edit one of these contacts, I get the error "Unfortunately, Contacts has stopped," which doesn't take me to my contact's details. I can, however, add a contact to my SIM, device, or Google account and be able to edit/save details just fine.

Now, I don't believe it's a Google account issue, as I've tried editing my phone's profile in Contacts, and I'm not able to... I receive the same error. My phone's profile is saved to my device, so that's also why I think it's not a Google issue.

I have tried the following:

  • Removed and reinserted the SIM card
  • Deleted cache/data from and forced stopped Contacts, Contacts Storage, and Google Contacts Sync
  • Deleted all contacts on my Google account and re-imported them
I have no tried restoring factory settings because I would rather not lose all of my settings. Does anyone have any insight into this issue? It boggles my mind that I can add new contacts and be able to edit them just fine, but pre-existing ones just don't respond...

I'm going to ask a couple of clarifying questions.

First, do you have the old SIM card? Does get behavior flip back to the prior problem when it's placed back in the phone (and thus the new problem is gone)?

Second, are you able to edit existing contacts from the web? What happens on your device after doing this?

Lastly, if you haven't already, can you install a third-party dialer/contact manager and see if the results are different?

1.) Good call about the old SIM card... forgot I still had it. I put it in, and the problem was gone. I was able to edit contacts just fine. I put the new one back in, and the problem returned.

2.) I did do this... I forgot to mention it. I can edit them from the web, and it'll sync on my phone, but I still can't edit it (same error as before).

3.) I just tried ExDialer, and I was able to edit a contact successfully, and the sync pushed it to the web as well.

Great troubleshooting that I forgot to do. I'm assuming this all means I will have to visit my local T-Mobile to fix the issue?
