Root Can't find build-prop file

hi need some help, was just trying to check something on build-prop file but for some strange reason i can't find it! went to system that's where it usually is but its not all i see is a bunch of folders also i searched it and came back with nothing, is it possible i don't have it? oh by the way i'm using root explorer so if someone can guide me on this thanks

Look in /system folder, usually at the very bottom

Now i screwed up!! decided to reboot phone and now i won't boot up i can access CWM but i didn't have a backup is the phone useless now?
