Root Can't get custom boot animation to work

I'm using an Xperia Play and I'm trying to get an ICS custom boot animation to work, but I'm just getting an "Android" animation.

I downloaded the zip folder on my phone's browser, and used a root file explorer to paste it into data/local. It didn't work, and because I'm an a** I copied over the original boot file in system/media to see if it worked. And all I'm getting is this stock Android animation.

Anyone know where I've gone wrong? Because I really don't want to be stuck with this plain boot I have now.
 
Do you have a /system/customize/resource directory? Look for bootanimation.zip there.

I guess it may also depend on the ROM. Are you running a custom one or just rooted stock?

You might get better luck posting something in a Xperia-specific forum.

Can't see that directory, and I'm running the stock ROM. Think I'll do that, thanks for your help
 
Did you set permissions to 644 or (rw-r-r) before rebooting .
Try changing permissions with root explorer if you haven't .
 
Go to /system/media
Long press bootanimation.zip
Click permissions
You will see 3x3 box with 9 ticks
Tick everything under read(owner,group,others)
Tick only the owner under write
Leave rest of the boxes unticked

Moved this to the Xperia Play root forums. I see that the issue is solved for you but it may help someone else with a Xperia Play later ;)
