can't get G610 to xfer files using bluetooth

Just got the G610 and overall I am happy with the phone; however, I can not seem to connect to the phone via bluetooth to transfer small files.

I run debian stable on my computer and previous had no problems (that I can remember) trnasferring small files with my LG smart phone. I tend to upload a lot of files thru the course of a week (uni student reading material) so the bluetooth file sharing is really handy for me.

Anyway, I did root my LG before and I wonder if that might have been why transferring files via bluetooth seemed so easy? I wasn't planning to root this phone b/c I didn't feel a need for it, unless ya need to do so in order to get things like bluetooth file xfers working.

The error message that pops when I try to browse the phone using blueman is:
Code:
Failed to open file system.
Service not supported by remote device.

There seems very little in the way of options in the phone's bluetooth and connection settings to be configured. Actually nothing it seems. But the message above makes me think there is a permissions issue and I am not certain how to proceed with checking for that in the phone.

Transferring files via usb cable is no probs but I'd rather make small file xfers over bluetooth rather than having to connect usb cable each time.

If anyone can help I'd appreciate it.

The error message, translated into English, says, "the method I use to transfger files by Bluetooth isn't a method the computer can use".

The only way rooting might help is if there's a Bluetooth file transfer app that works with your computer and requires root to work. Otherwise no - root doesn't affect whether Blutooth works. (Unless you're trying to transfer files you have no access to but superuser does.)

Well that is strange because it is the same computer using the same method it used to connect to my old LG P920 without any hiccups. In addition, I interpret that when the computer spits back the error message mentioning a problem with the remote device that quite possibly the problem lay with the phone, being the remote device?

I did not necessarily think rooting the LG phone was why my computer was able to make a bluetooth connection with it and xfer files, but just one thing I thought that obviously different between the two scenarios.

There is the other obvious fact they are two different phones, but both running android, but different versions. Unfortunately I know very little more about androids, so if anyone has any constructive advice of things I could look at in my phone to help determine how to unlock the power of bluetooth file xfer I would really appreciate reading them.
