Help Can't get pdanet to load on laptop

Not sure if this is the correct forum but I'm trying to tether my unrooted LG Spectrum to my laptop running Win7 64-bit using PDAnet.

Have been through all PDA's help screens and suggestions and have tried installing the computer side client both from direct internet download to laptop and from running from the Spectrum via USB.

I have downloaded and successfully (at least according to the install wizard) installed the LG USB driver both from PDA and directly from LG's support page.

In all cases I get the exact same result when I try to install PDA on the laptop. When I get to the screen in PDA's install wizard that asks me to confirm I've installed the USB Driver I click "yes" and then I get the
 
When you plug your phone in, you have to swipe down, click Usb settings and re-select the current option.... Or modem, whichever is active. I've encountered that issue any time I've hooked this phone up to the pc.
 
I had the same issue one time. I can't remember how I got it to work though. :/

mrB's solution sounds familiar.
 
There's something about how this phone registers with the pc... It doesn't send a signal to the pc that it's connected or something so you have to manually choose the usb setting to send the signal. No the end of the world, but it can be confusing.

And it's important to note that you need to have the usb plugged into the phone before plugging into the pc. Other phones dont matter, but this one does.
 
True... You should have plugged your phone into your pc before using pdanet for the first time.
