Root Can't Install Chrome

I just purchased a refurb TF700T for a really good deal. Received it yesterday and unlocked the bootloader, installed TWRP, installed Cromi-X 5.0.3, and then started installing apps from my Google account. For some reason I can't get Chrome to install though. I've tried rebooting but nothing seems to work. This is the error I get:

chrome unknown error code during application install -24

Any ideas? I'm not coming from a backup or anything. This is my first tablet so it's just grabbing apps straight from Play. I've tried manually browsing to Chrome in the Play Store and downloading and same problem.

It could be that Chrome is already installed as a system app, if so you'll need to uninstall it first before installing the one from the store. Personally I use Titanium BackUp to uninstall system apps, but use whatever pleases you the most.

Thanks Podivin!

Chrome wasn't installed so I can't uninstall. I did manage to find Chrome Beta and for some reason it installed just fine. I guess I'll just use that instead. Anything is better than the stock browser I was using.

The issue is you have some com.google.chrome data left in /data/data/.

Remove it from the file manager in TWRP and it will then install fine. This can happen if you lock the cache using browser2ram or cache2sd as well.

Thanks sbdags. I don't think I have any data left from Chrome because this was a brand new tablet when I rooted and ROM'ed it. I literally turned it on, rooted it, and ROM'ed it right away. Then I tried installing Chrome and it didn't work.

I do think that I turned on cache2sd during the ROM install though. So I'm assuming that's what did it. Thanks for figuring this out! I was wondering. I wonder why Chrome Beta installed though? Either way, it's no big deal since I have Chrome Beta installed and running just fine.

I bet you do have chrome remnants left. Here is what happens. Asus ship the stock rom with chrome installed. When you upgrade to CROMi-X I have it removed but you already have the cache folders present. Turning on cache2sd then locks them.

Ohh! That makes sense! I went into file manager and deleted Chrome (it was in com.android.chrome) and voila Chrome installed. Thanks for helping with this! Chrome Beta stopped working right yesterday when I flashed 5.1 so I uninstalled it and tried to reinstall but it didn't work. So I was back to using Firefox. The Chrome Beta thing was my fault I think. I originally installed at a lower PPI but yesterday when I flashed I decided to go with the 240 option and it made the top part of the browser look weird. I assume it has to do with me installing Chrome Beta at one PPI and then trying to run it at another.
