Root Can't install from SD card

I have one SD card working. However, when I followed verygreen's instructions, using the latest nightly on another card, it didn't work. (I'm lary of wrecking my one working card, but I'd like to do the update, so I wanted to try it out first. besides, the install I got to work is on a Sandisk 8gb class 10 card). I'm on Windows 7. I used win32 disk imager, the generic-sdcard.img, the 213 nightly, and today I tried it with the latest 7.1 encore file with the same result. I follow the instructions, write the card, copy the nightly and the gapps file, and put it in the nook color. I get errors, tons of them, and it's probably because the partition isn't big enough. I've tried doing it without the gapps file, and I get the same result. Lots of errors on the install. If I take out the card, put it back in my computer, enlarge the partition using mini-tool partitioner, and then put it in the Nook Color, the install seems to go fine. But when I restart the NC, I get the green "Cryanogen 7" flag with "Loading..." underneath, then I get a blank screen. The NC is still on, but nothing more happens. I've waited for 20 minutes before now, and still nothing. I'm using a 4gb Sandisk class 4 card. What am I doing wrong? And is anyone else having this problem?

I don't know if I'm going to be much help with this....

I assume this is an sdcard install of CM7 (which I've never done).

You have one sdcard that successfully boots CM7 and you're trying to create a second one?

4 gb is kind of small for this, but I would think it might work. (I usually recommend a min 8 gb for a sdcard when the rom is on the Nook or 16 gb for sdcard install like this.)

What was the sdcard used for previously? I wonder if you have to remove all the partitions on the disk first, THEN try to flash it again.

I reformatted the disk, then tried to write the image to it, and got an error. So I suspect that it is the sd card, and it's sprouted some fault. Sigh. But I ordered a new 16gb card for my phone, and before I insert it, I'll have a crack at that. Basically I wanted to do a dry run of the new release of CM7, because I want the option to reboot into Nook or Android, but I'm not confident enough to put it on the card that works straight away. I wanted a backup.

Formatting does not remove partitions from it, that's why I asked what it was used for previously. i.e. if it was used for something similar it might have 3 partitions on it and not much space left.

How big is the partition you're trying to image (4g)? (What does windows say the size is?)

Can you drag a file to it without imaging it? (i.e. is the card working w/o imaging?)

I used mini partion tool to reclaim the partitions and reformat the card to near-4gb before I started the process. It seems to take files okay, and I can drag and drop items to the card (I unmounted the card, remounted it and the files were still there).

Ok, then bad image, imager or technique. :D

As an experiment, try flashing with my bootable sdcard image. If it's successful, see if you can boot off of it. It'll create just one partition so easy enough to get rid of.

I got my new SD card this morning. 16 gig, class 4 Sandisk card. Got it from a reputable source and it looks genuine. My PC likes it. And it's exactly the same. It seems to install properly, then I restart, get the cyano7 green flag and the "loading," then the screen flashes, then - nothing. The NC is "on" there's that glow from the screen, but nothing else happens. Could it be the repartitioning I do before I insert the card? But if I don't do that, I get tons of errors when I try to install, and it won't restart. Completely stuck now.

There's nothing to repartition if you're on the sdcard. :D That's for newer NC's with the rom installed on EMMC.

Are you waiting long enough for the install (~5 minutes)?

Press power + "n" key to start it up, then let go of the power key and keep the "n" depressed until your green flag changes to a message about booting into the boot menu (or similar msg).

Then you'll have to change the boot menu to say you want to boot off of sdcard or emmc.

Sorry, I don't have a NC anymore to check.

Finally! The 16 gb card worked! The 8gb card was a class 10 one, and I had quite a few force close programs, so I wanted to get the new one working, since the sites confirm that the 4gb cards work best. I think my problems were twofold, which was why it was so hard to solve. The 4gb card had a fault, and the repartitioning beforehand was screwing the SD card up. Both of those made for a dead install. I don't know why, but when I did it on a new card and didn't repartition, it worked. So I left the partitioning, and did it exactly as instructed. Put the CM7 program on first, and this time it worked. Then put the GAPPS program on, and let that run. So now I have a Nook Color with 16gb on it, and a spare 8gb card for my music!
