Can't install Google Quick Search

Greetings all. I believe I have a question that is not dependent on my phone or carrier. I am running Android 2.2.1 on a rooted phone.

Recently I screwed up my google search, you know the search that pops up when you hit the physical search button on your phone. I believe this app is googlequicksearchbox and my post is assuming that.

So, I no longer have this search feature whether using the hard key on the phone or looking for the app on the screen. I believe I messed up the functionality when moving the app to an sd card and then having to format that card due to an error.

I have found the app on my phone in the /system/app folder and it's called googlequicksearchbox. I can't uninstall it or move it or anything. I have downloaded google search from The Market and it states that it can not install it to the default location. I believe the original file(s) are so messed up the phone can't work with them.

So what do I do? The app I've been using to access googlequicksearchbox is Astro and like I said, it can't delete the old app, move it or anything, it's just stuck sitting on the phone.

Any insight would be helpful, thanks!!

What kind of phone do you have and what rom are you on?

More times than not, if you boot to recovery and wipe cache and dalvik cache, reflash the rom that you're on, then those things will come back

It's an LG Optimus V. I am rooted but not with a custom rom. I do not have a backup so I can't do it that way. I guess if I can't figure out how to do this at the file level, I'll just give up on it. Thanks for your input.
