Can't logon Gmail

Recently I have been unable to logon Gmail on my mobile/cell phone.
I am prompted for my password and cannot enter a correct one even though when I logon Gmail (Google) using my (Windows) PC I change my password to something I can remember and when I try using that password on my Mobile/Cell phone to logon Gmail I get a display that the password is incorrect.

Also (different problem) is there an easier way to change my default email account for use with the Email client (not Gmail) other than doing a factory reset and having to loose data?

Setting up 2-step verification seems to fix this for many people. Apparently yor Google account on the phone fails to pickup the new password. Going through the 2-step process kicks it into gear.

As for the default account inemail, I don't know what email client you have but most have a 'Set default account' setting somewhere. Go through the settings and see if you can find it.

I have set up the 2-step process without any improvement.
I then changed my password (again) using my pc for my gmail email account and still when I tap on the gmail icon on my phone I am prompted for my password and when I enter it exactly the same as the new one it doesn't work (message on logon window on phone displays "You entered the wrong password or your account has changed....".

Your device needs you to enter an app specific password, not your normal one.
You can generate an app specific password from the settings (accessed from your computer) in gmail (security/2step author.).

I had tried setting up an app specific password but Google only seemed to allow PC type apps (eg Outlook etc) and I thought that I needed to set up for app Gmail.

ANYWAY I now seem to have fixed the problem. I once worked in the IT industry (analyst/programmer) and so try lots of things when I experience problems and I had been trying before posting here.
I was just 'fiddling' with my mobile phone a few minutes ago and did something (I can't remember) and found that I was prompted for my email account and password.
I entered the name I was using WITHOUT @gmail.com and now it works.
I am sure that it used to work in the past and when I now select GMAIL it displays my gmail email address exactly the same way as it did before but now I don't have a problem. - VERY strange.

My login was working via my PC and my android tablet but not my phone.

Anyway it now seems ok.
