Help Can't open MMS

My LG VS930 21B Android version 4.1.2, served by Net10, stopped opening MMS. It sends them, it receives them but cannot open the messages. Net 10 was of no help, following their advice I reset my phone to factory settings, but other than the headache to bring it up to working condition, I got nothing from that exercise.
The second problem is that when I try update the software I get an error message to try later...HELP!!!!!!!

Please post what app you are using for messaging. The most recent update to Hangouts for example has many complaints on Play Store of various MMS-related issues having been introduced.

I am using the SMS that came with the phone, prt of the Android system.
