Help Can't paste into stock email client

Am on ICS and can't seem to paste into stock email client message body. I can briefly see the paste and clipboard icons but they only flash on the screen and disappear before I can press them. There are no problems pasting the same text copied from an SMS message into GMail - the icons stay on screen until selected.

Any ideas as to what the problem might be?

seems to be a problem with swiftkey. If I revert to stock k/b its fine. Others have reported the problem so hopefully swiftkey will fix it.
