Cant receive all picture messages from Iphone users

Hey guys, just updated from the s3 to the s5 over the weekend and noticed I'm still having this issue. Seems like it only happens when I try to get picture messages from friends/family with Iphones. I even asked my buddy who is a manager of the local ATT store in the mall and he said he's never heard of the issues I've explain.

Phone is a brand new S5, running ATT service. I can get the picture, but it loads as a triangle with an "!" in the middle. I can save the photo, and go in to my albums and see the photo as a small preview but if I click on it to enlarge it, it acts like a broken link (squiggly line with a ? in the middle). Some times i wont even get the picture, it'll just come through as a text message and say something along the lines of "One or more of the images aren't suitable" blah blah.

I always receive some type of text when people do send me a photo, weather it be actually getting the photo, or one of the two error messages I just describe. It's not like nothing is coming through at all, and this issue doesn't happen all time. Some times I get them no problem. Issue only seems to happen from Iphone users. And it doesn't matter how many times they try to send the same photo that won't load, it's always the same tihng even if they try it again.

I've tried to do some research using google, and the only thing I've came across was that Iphones sometimes send photos in a format that no other phone has other than Iphones. But I don't know if that's my problem or not. Cause I would have to believe that more than just me would be having this problem. I just don't know what the issue could be, cause I just got the new phone and I'm still having the same issue.

Any ideas?

Yup, it is an iMessage issue and Apple is being sued with a Class Action Lawsuit.

search Google News for Apple iMessage Lawsuit

Were you ever an iPhone user?
It may not be an iMessage issue. I thought there was some sort of setting about previewing photos, etc to avoid large data charges, or something to be set in the SMS/MMS section??
You're able to receive images from non-iPhone users? Go to the Apple forums and read about the law suit and iMessage issues that AZgl speaks of, and also search there for Android or photo issues... lots of great info on the forum, but not much help or response from Apple themselves...

Nope I've never been an Iphone user or purchased anything Apple related. It's just weird that I don't know anyone else having this issue and my friend who manages an ATT store here in our local mall has never heard of this either.

As far as I'm aware the only time I have issues is from Iphone users, and it's not all the time. I can get pictures from them, just one out of every 10 or so pictures will not load and will give me this error.

Did your friend have any suggestions. It sounds like setting on your device possibly

Another annoying thing that happens all the time is when I go to save images, not sure if this happens with all senders, or just iphone senders, but I always have to rename the file because it always wants to save the as "imagejpeg_0.jpeg" or something. Its also very annoying

Maybe that is the initial problem. The file extension doesn't seem right so the app wouldn't know what to do with it.

everytime my one friend tries to send me something I get this message

"one or more of the message components have been deleted by MMS Adaption. Either the message was to large or the components were unsuitable for your device."

and what would it be on my phone? It's brand new haven't even had it a week, and I had the same issue on the old S3?

And everything I read about that lawsuit is pretty much issues with users who switched from an Iphone to an Android. And weren't receiving most messages. I never owned an Iphone and never will, and I get regular texts, just can't get photo's. They will appear in my inbox, but it will have a "!" in an orange triangle, or I've been getting the message I posted above.

So, you get the same problem with regular texts, in that from other users, or only iphone users? Do your friends have this problem when sending to other users? You should check with your service provider then, their tech support. I know for my account, I have to have a certain package applied that allows me to receive unlimited pictures or videos through MMS... other than that, not sure what to tell you, but if you have had this problem with your previous device, and they are not having this problem with anyone else that they sends pics to, I would suggest its your plan or setting on your account or SIM card etc...

No I don't ever have problems receiving text messages from anyone. I never get anyone mad at me because I never replied to something I never got lol. It's just pictures it seems like.

which text messaging app are you using on your phone?
That error message is generated by the MMS system before it got to your phone. MMS queries the recipient's phone to see what msg app is available. If that app is not compatible, it will sometimes just compact the imaze size. In your case it sounds like it just deleted the image altogether.

The stock app may very well not handle large MMS images.

That is why I am now using Go SMS Pro which does.

Go SMS Pro has a neat trick I like. It queries the recipient for msg app type.
IF the recipient does not use Go SMS Pro, or have a compatible MMS app, it will store that image on a web host and then provide to the recipient a link to view that image. It's not quite as convenient, but the image does not get lost.

Why not download and try Go SMS Pro if for no other reason, than to find out if what I said might be happening?

I'm just using the stop messaging ap. Never used anything else. I'm supposed to take the phone in to the store tomorrow to have my buddy check it out. He believes it has to do more with my phone since I got the broken image thing from an S5 user earlier, so it's not just Iphones I guess.

Also, I don't know if its a setting that could fix this or not, but I have the auto correct turned on, at least the words pop up on the menu above my messages, but doesn't change what I want it to say (not sure what this setting is called). But I'm always misspelling words, and i like how I can just click on the misspelled word and click the correct spelling. But this one doesn't seem to have any words in it. Take for instance I just typed a message and typed "what", but I spelled it "whay" and there was no correction for that... Any way to fix that?

Try a different keyboard app. Some are better at word prediction/spelling than others.

I am using SwiftKey paid version and love it.

Talked with my buddy and he is dumbfounded. But there is only one thing in common with all the friends I cannot receive pictures from. None of them have ATT, which is who I am with...

I have the exact same attachment problem as yours - and the same non-solution. Yes, I am with ATT.

Not helpful, but thought you'd like some misery company.

I have the exact same attachment problem on my S5. Another buddy also sees this with his S4......We are both on AT&T.

I have some other findings to add. This would mostly happen from a buddy of mine who has an iPhone (Verizon).....But it didn't happen all the time so we were thinking that it only happened if he edited or enhanced the image before he sent it.

Well today it happened with another buddy of mine, but he has a Droid MAXX (Verizon)

I had another iPhone (AT&T) user take a pic and send it and it came thru just fine.

So the best I can tell is that it seems to be an issue between AT&T and Verizon

I'm having the same issues. First using a HTC One and now a Samsung S5 Active when getting picture texts from iphone users. Problem also seems to be with all carriers...only common piece is iphone. Not sure why but some pics come through without any problem while others only have the box with an exclamation mark.

Hope someone finds a solution! Driving me crazy!

the problem is with AT&T I believe. My friend has htc one on AT&T and they cap mms at 1 MB. With other carriers, like Sprint, having a 2 MB cap, mms are not being compressed enough to view on AT&T devices.

Hey everyone! I moved over from years of owning iPhones last week. In the process of moving over I had a bunch of the iMessage issues with my phone number which I had to call Apple to sort out. Frustrating for sure.

I also had an issue somewhat like what you're describing with attachments in texts and not being to view them. My issue was APN settings. Maybe do a search for your carrier's APN settings to make sure they're set up right.

Good luck!

I had the same issue, and am also an ATT customer. I wasn't receiving any pictures from androids or iphones. I was able to resolve the issue by deleting ALL of my existing text messages, and then had a friend send me a pic via text. And presto, I received the picture. Is the issue due to a size limitation in the message settings?

I have the exact same issue.... it's so irritating!!!!

I have done pictures that will come through and some pictures won't... but I don't care to have to delete all my messages every time this happens :/

Same issue here. Its been a problem with other phones. Im an droid in an Iphone world where I live and I've had this problem since 2008? across various android platforms. Dunno what to tell you. All the tech guys at the stores are baffled....

I have a GS5 with the same exact problem as OP.

I've been using Android devices since 2009 and have never had this issue until moving to AT&T. After troubleshooting with a friend it appears that it is a network issue between AT&T and cross network devices.

Of the two pictures sent separately, one came up with the exact same issue described. Both pictures were taken on a Verizon iPhone 4s running iOS 8. Both pictures were taken with 1x zoom, no altering or editing, rear facing cameras, and had the same file sizes. In fact, the one that didn't work was a smaller file size.

The failed image was even sent twice. I tried switching to google hangouts to view the second image, and even handscent. After changing apps I was still unable to view the image.

Here's the kicker: after CROPPING the failed image and resending it, I was able to receive the picture just fine.

I'm literally baffled at what variables are causing these sporadic images to occur. These steps prove that the issue is NOT:
-Camera used on the sending device
-File size
-Messaging App
-Editing the original image (altering it created it to WORK, not initially FAIL)

I'm going to create a service ticket with AT&T and reference this article since I've read elsewhere that it is a problem with their network.
