Help cant receive texts while on wifi

i just recently got wifi at my house and i cant receive text messages while im connected to wifi. although im using chomp sms with my girlfriend so im not using the stock android messaging. everthing else seems to work fine because i can make calls while im on wifi just cant seem to receive text messages. any ideas on why?

If your wi-fi is set up to sleep after a time, you will not get messages
