Can't reinstall sd card apps after changing sd card

Hi All :)

This is my first post here.

My device is a Samsung S Duos running ICS, rooted but with stock rom and no mods etc.

I had used links2sd and moved most apps including libraries and app data to 2nd partition of a 4 gb sd card which was an ext3 partition.

I recently gave that phone to my wife with an 8 gb card.

When I tried to reinstall some of the common apps back I got "Insufficient space" error.

I realised that this was because remnants of the old installations were still on the internal memory so the ones that I found I uninstalled and was able to reinstall most of the apps after doing that.

However some apps like facebook, twitter, youtube and maps etc I am still unable to install either because I am unable to find their relevant file remnants to remove (fb, tw) or because there is no uninstall option as in the case of youtube and maps.

Can you please guide me what to do further.

Thanks.

Welcome to the forums we are glad you are here :)

Ok I'm going to do my best to help you and I hope that I can be successful. To remove the system apps like youtube and maps you will need to use either a file explorer with root permission to remove the apks from the system folder. I recommend Es File Explorer. You being rooted should also invest in Titanium Backup. It is worth every cent. Titanium can also remove system apps.

With Link2sd you may need to clean out the partition and start it fresh in order to regain your apps usage. Most of the time a simple reinstall of Links2SD will regain the apps that are stored in the extended partition. But not always. Having used the same 32gig SDCARD for my last 3 phones that was all I had to do with 2 of them the third one however I had to rerun the apps through titanium to get the apps and data back then tell Link2sd where to put them. it was a bit of a Pita but it worked and I was able to get all my apps back and update the ones that need it with no other issues. If you require further assistance please do not hesitate to ask :) after all that is why we are here.

One last thing after doing the reinstall you should reboot the device to ensure that everything is working properly and that all apps are accessible.
