Root Can't root/easiest way?

I'm trying to root my D1 so maybe I can live with it until the new 4G comes out. I want to overclock, wifi hotspot, mod, freeze stock apps, etc.
I tried Z4Root permanent root but it stops and closes after a minute or so. Can't seem to find SuperOneClick latest version anywhere online for download (shortfuse.org is unavailable).
I have way too much to do today to spend much more time on this thing. Can I use an older version of SuperOneClick? Z4 not working any more? Should I just go buy a Global off Craigslist?
