Root Can't root phone

Hey guys.

I've been trying to root my Legend running the official Vodofone froyo update and am running into all sorts of problems. Since I have HBOOT 1.01 I was trying to follow the "How To Root HBOOT 1.01" guide but get stuck when trying to flash the firmware.zip file using clockworkmod. When the phone reboots it just comes up with the red triangle on the screen. I can get to the recovery screen from there but when I select "Apply update.zip" it begins loading the file but then says it can't fully verify the file. So that's as far as I get. Without the clockworkmod recovery the rest of the procedure (flashing firmware.zip) can't be done.

From reading I think this is some problem with the legend not being able to run alternative recovery from the phone itself. So is there a way to use the batch files in the rooting tools to get this to work while connected to the pc? There's also a different update.zip file in the Fake-flash thread which may help here but I'm not sure.

Basically I just need to get this part done, which should then allow me to downgrade to 1.31 while keeping HBOOT 1.01 and still root the device. Has anyone succeeded in doing this?

Hello, friend.

I also have Vodafone branded Legend. I bought it with official lowest available Vodafone firmware (Eclair, HBOOT lower than 0.43.0003). I found gsm shop with service equipped with Clip, they told me that I must upgrade to HBOOT 0.43.0003 for unbrand/S-OFF/simlock remove with this tool. So, I stupidly applied official Vodafone update which bumped my HBOOT to 1.00.0000. I found this solution then: [GUIDE] How To Root HBOOT 1.01 - xda-developers. It worked minus the GoldCard part (card MUST be formatted with Fat32 for the update to work from it). Now I have CM7 #30.

Have been struggling to root my legend for ages now. I always seem to get permission denied problems or Signature Verifying failed type problems. Can soft root no problem but perm root is a problem. When you say "minus the GoldCard part" do you mean leave that bit out? Wish i could just pay someone to walk me through this process because I am finding it a nightmare! LOL. I followed the link that you used mate but I came unstuck at the end. It seems there is a signature problem (whatever that means)
Legend Root Step 1
Erasing cache and rebooting in RUU mode..
erasing 'cache'... OKAY

About to start flash...
< waiting for device >
sending 'zip' (121756 KB)... OKAY
writing 'zip'... INFOadopting the signatu
INFOsignature checking...
INFOzip header checking...
INFOzip info parsing...
INFOchecking model ID...
INFOchecking custom ID...
FAILED (remote: 42 custom id check fail)
sending 'zip' (121756 KB)...

...then I follow instructions and open step2-windows.bat and the red exclamation/triangle comes on and the command window just closes before I have time to read what it says :((
I then pressed volume up and power to take me to the standard recovery menu and i thought I'd try and install update.zip from previous attempts at clockwork mod but in nice YELLOW writing it just says this
..E:Can't open /cache/recovery/command
---Install from sdcard...
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
Verifying update package...
E:Failed to verify whole-file signature
E:signature verification failed
Installation aborted.

Am really running out of ideas. I seem to have tried everything but just cannot seem toi be able to get write access or something that is stopping me from changing things. Can temproot with visionary+ no problem
