Root Can't root S3 i-747, tried EVERYTHING

Hi all!

Guys, I bought an unlocked S3 i-747 AT&T and can't root it. I tried ALL possible ways posted online and nothing seem to work..

Please HELP!

Thank you guys, I tried all of the above. My android is 4.4.2 Kit Kat. Towelroot will not do anything at all. What happens with let's say ODIN or other methods- everything goes great. Untill I try to install SuperSU. I ran it and when it asks to disable KNOX, it says "Failed to disable KNOX". That's it.

Currently working on i747 I just replaced motherboard. Flashed Philz Touch recovery with Odin. Flashed Supersu update zip in recovery then rebooted. When Supersu takes a long time to disable Knox I go to application manager and force stop it then go back to Supersu. I was on 4.4.2 NJ1 when I rooted. Downloading rooted NJ2 ZIP now to flash in recover.

Should be a few things listed for Knox. When you first open application manage, it opens on downloaded. Swipe from right to left till you get to all then scroll down to you see the gold shield with keyhole on blue background.

Supersu will eventually disable Knox. Might take a few tries. That's why I usually help it out by doing it in app manager.

Thank you for letting me know! I was able to find all agents for KNOX, but I can't "Force Stop" the main file- it says "Security Policy restricts this action"....

When I open SuperSU, it asks if I want to update Binary Files, with two options- Normal & TWRP. I say Normal... Then it asks to disable Knox, then it fails. If i choose TWRP option, then nothing happens at all.... What kind of TWRP should i have on my phone?

I've always had issues with TWRP on S3's. Found that Philz Touch works well and use it instead. Supersu may fail to disable Knox on few attempts but will eventually disable it. I always update binary normal.

Pro tip, well not really since I'm no pro. But what I've noticed is SuperSU hangs when trying to disable Knox if it's never been used to grant an APP super user permissions. It's like it's looking for the log to have something in it. If I run Root Checker, Titanium backup, or any other app that needs root permissions first, then SuperSU can disable Knox on the first try. Otherwise it hangs. I usually just use one of the Root Checker apps from the playstore.

As far as recovery, I'm using TWRP Official 2.8.7.0. Philz has internal storage issues if I restore a stock backup (custom roms work fine, but I like modifying my own rom.) I have no issues at all with TWRP with the latest version. A few versions back had issues with mounting external storage but no problems what so ever with TWRP lately.

My S3 is the SPH-L710 (Sprint version) on Boost mobile.

Good luck.

Had mount issue with TWRP on t999l and I747 when flashing in recovery. Seems that every flavor of S3 has its own quirks and likes different recoveries. Thanks for the Supersu tip, I'll try it next time.

Agreed every device is different, i link to Twrp alot but i do like Philz Cwm as well.

I rooted my S3 (Gti9300) and Tab 2 (GT-P3110) with Kingo Root- both times successful. Straight away.
