Cant root/update f16ref box

I bought this box, cant root or update the firmware.

Android 4.0 Google TV Player w/ Wi-Fi / 1GB RAM / 4GB ROM - Black - Free Shipping - DealExtreme

Model number: MBX reference board (f16ref)
Android version: 4.0.4
Kernel version: 2.6.34-gc76d0c1-dirty
Build number: ICS.MBX.20120926

I get E:verification signature failure when the box boots up to update.

First started with issue of black status bar showing up in MX Player when paying video. MK802 stick I have doesnt have this issue.

Any help would be appreciated.

Upon more research, it appears that this box is a G-Box Midnight. Not sure if a clone or just unlabelled from DX. Opening the box, it shows v2.1 on the board. I flashed it with the newest ROOTED firmware for the Midnight from G-Box site and it works great!

Glad to hear you found a solution!
I have the "Midnight" branded version, nice little box. After the 12/4 update it works well with just about anything you throw at it, except Netflix (no picture). Hope they'll resolve that issue with next update.

Hi. I have the same tv box you have and would like to know how you ROOTed the device and what site did you find the FW and all?

The unit I have is not ROOTED. Does the FW ROOT it?
